Artwork is the quickest way to make your home styling reflect your personality (and add that elusive wow factor to your interiors), but it can be a big monetary investment. Make sure you’re spending your hard-earned cash on artwork you’ll love for years to come, with our useful guide. We break it down, room by room, to help you pick the right piece for your space.
Go large in your living room
Don’t let your tv be the only thing to look at in your living room, when you can create a beautiful sense of scale with wall art. When it comes to hanging pieces, bigger is always better. The right sized wall art will make your room feel spacious and your ceilings feel high. Most of us accidentally choose art that is too small for the space; aim for your framed pieces to take up between half to three-quarters of your wall space (interior experts say that 70% is that magic ratio). Make sure to keep your furniture in mind, as the wall space is considered what area can be seen - not the entire wall itself. A good rule of thumb is to hang your art 15cm above the level of your couch, lamps, or side tables.

Stop! Before you nail that hole in your plaster, take a moment to measure where you’re hanging your wall art. Almost everyone hangs their art too high, leading to an off-balance look. Wall art should always be hung with the focal of the piece at eye-level. Aim for the centre of the artwork to be around 145-150cm from the ground.
