Sheets aren't as forgiving as a quilt cover. Unlike a doona, which has a little wiggle room, your sheet size needs to match your mattress exactly. A queen mattress needs queen-sized sheets, full stop. Get this right and your fitted sheet stays put all night instead of popping off at the corners.

Thread count only tells the full story within the same fabric. A 500TC cotton and a 165GSM linen aren't measured the same way, so let warmth and feel guide you as much as the number. If you run hot overnight, Bamboo Cotton or linen breathe better than a dense cotton weave. If a wrinkle-easy, low-fuss sheet matters most, stick with anything marked Easy Care.

Do I need a flat sheet as well as a fitted sheet?

Not necessarily, it depends on how you like to make your bed. Whilst most Australian bed sheets come as sets with both, the difference is your fitted sheet's elasticated edges hug the mattress and protect it, whereas a flat sheet (or top sheet) sits between you and the quilt, perfect for summer nights and keeping the quilt cover cleaner for longer while adding a hotel-style layer. If you'd rather skip the flat sheet, we offer fitted sheets separately.

What does thread count mean for sheet sets?

The thread count tells you how many threads are woven into each square inch of fabric

What's included in an Adairs sheet set?

What's the difference between a classic cotton and a sateen sheet?
