Product Care

How to care for your furniture:

General Cleaning

For regular cleaning, a quick wipe over with a clean, slightly damp soft cloth is all that is required.

Remove spills quickly using an absorbent clean white cloth or paper towel.

Do not use coloured cloths or paper towels in case the colour transfers to your leather upholstery. Blot spills using a circular motion working from outside to the centre.

Do not rub or spot clean specific areas, this may cause discolouration or marks, and it will look different to the rest of the leather on the furniture.

Do not allow the leather to become wet, excess water on the leather may cause water marks and discolouration. Do not clean leather with general cleaning agents, chlorine-based product’s, abrasive cleaners or soap.

The surface coating of your leather can be damaged by excessive and prolonged exposure to high levels of sweat. In these instances, additional care and maintenance is required by ensuring that it is cleaned more frequently with a leather cleaner and leather protector.

Any oils, creams or lotions used on your body and exposed to the leather may stain your furniture. Ensure any products you use personally, and are likely to be exposed to the leather are completely dry or cover this area to minimise the risk of discolouration to your leather.

Pets

Pets can damage your leather easily with their claws, chewing or even the oil residue from their coats.

Vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove any loose hair from pets. Use a leather cleaner & protector regularly to ensure any marks from pets do not set in.

Location of your furniture

Avoid positioning your furniture in direct sunlight as it can cause the leather to fade or discolour. Keep away from any direct heat source, this may also damage the furniture.

Leather protection and leather cleaning products

Only use commercial or specialist leather cleaners and leather protectors that are specifically designed for leather. Read the instructions very carefully to ensure suitability for your furniture and always test the product in a discreet area of the leather first to check for compatibility. Spot cleaning using these products may not be suitable, sometimes the entire surface area of the leather where the stain occurs needs treating to avoid discolouration.

Always check the 'warnings' on commercial products.

Protect your furniture by using coasters and trivets.

Always wipe up moisture promptly and dry with a soft cloth.

Avoid dragging sharp or rough objects across the surface of your furniture.

Dust with a soft, dry untreated cloth.

Moisture and heat can damage any wood finish.

Always wipe up moisture promptly and dry with a soft cloth.

Use Coasters or Trivets when placing items such as cups on surface.

Avoid dragging sharp or rough objects across the surface of your wood furniture.

Dust with a soft, dry untreated cloth.

Maintain consistent humidity levels to minimize seasonal expansion and contraction of wood and prevent warping.

Over time, air and sunlight will change the color of natural wood.

Occasionally rotate the items placed on your wood furniture to allow a more uniform color to develop.

Dirt and dust

Dirt and dust can damage the surface of your upholstery, so vacuuming regularly using low suction and a soft brush attachment is recommended. Vacuum underneath any cushions and in all crevices.

Spills

Gently blot any spills immediately, using circular movements working from the outside to the centre.

Do not rub the area, this may damage the fibres and cause surface fuzzing.

Use a white absorbent cloth or paper towel.

Never use coloured paper or material to blot spills in case the colour transfers to your furniture.

Cleaning

Never soak the fabric or furniture structure with any cleaning agent including upholstery cleaners.

Do not use household detergents, alcohol, chemical’s or soaps to clean your furniture. Only use a cleaning product that is specifically suited to the type of fabric used on the upholstery and test first on a discreet area to double check the effectiveness.

Do not self-machine wash removable covers at home unless the style is labelled as machine washable. Loose covers may shrink or distort making re-fit impossible.

Steam cleaning and spot cleaning

If these cleaning methods are not performed correctly, they can leave watermarks and brown stains. Domestic steam cleaners (the type you hire) should not be used. Only use a specialist cleaning company to make sure it is carried out in a professional & safe manner. Leave any removable covers on during cleaning to minimise shrinking.

Pet hair

Remove pet hair regularly using a lint roller, or soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. If pets are regular users of your furniture, it is advisable to use additional loose covers for protection against soiling.

Heat and sunlight

Avoid positioning your furniture in direct sunlight as it can cause the fabric to fade or discolour. Keep away from any direct heat source, this may also damage your furniture.

Fabric protection treatments

Treating your upholstery material with a stain repellent such as Teflon or Scotch-guard treatments is advisable as this will provide good protection from general light soiling, however, it is highly recommended this is carried out by a specialist rather than trying this yourself with a commercial product.

Velvet and chenille fabrics

Fabrics with a raised surface such as velvet & chenille, need regular brushing very lightly in the direction of the nap - with the pile and not against the pile. These fabrics often look like they have surface marks or shade variations simply because the pile is crushed. Use a soft mitten made from fabric or a very soft brush and stroke in the direction of the pile to remove any marks or surface changes. Vacuuming may also disturb the pile, the fabric can be easily returned to an even appearance using the mitten or soft brush to restore pile direction.

Floor Rugs

Use a professional rug cleaner only.

Steam cleaning machines are not recommended.

Do not spot clean or use cleaning agents.

Use lukewarm water to dilute spills and blot immediately using a soft cloth.

Vacuum regularly to remove surface dust and dirt. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

Outdoor Rugs

Shake or hose off for easy cleaning.

Wash with mild soap and water.

Sweep regularly to remove surface dust and dirt.

Do not use harsh chemicals.

Do not vacuum, machine wash, dry clean or tumble dry.

Keep indoors when not in use.
