Explore the Adairs range of cushions, an affordable and easy way to finish a bedroom, living room or window seat, whether you want a decorative statement, an everyday comfy essential, or a seat cushion for a chaise lounge.

Dress your bed or sofa with cushions, quilts, duvets and pillowslips to add a personal touch to your space. Mix and match fabrics, shapes, prints and colours to craft your own look, choosing from on-trend finishes like velvet, linen, wool and faux fur. For a vintage touch, we also offer cushions made from vintage washed linen, a fabric that's noticeably more durable than standard linen and gets softer with every wash.

How to Choose Cushions

Cushion Size and Shape

Scale matters more than matching. Skip buying the same cushion in a few colours, it reads stiff rather than styled. Mix sizes, larger at the back, smaller at the front, for visual height, and vary the shape: a rectangle, a square and a round cushion make a classic trio, grouped in odd numbers for a more considered look

Cushion Material

Aim for at least three different textures in a grouping rather than repeating one fabric. Pair velvet with linen and a tufted piece for an opulent look, or stay in neutral tones as long as the materials vary. Match the fabric to its use: smooth cushions suit sofas you'll sink into, while firmer or tasseled styles are better kept in the bedroom, where they're purely decorative.

Cushion Colour and Style

Choose cushions once you know the room's palette. Tone in with an existing rug or bedhead, or pull an accent colour from a piece of art. White, navy and grey build a beachy look, while red, mustard and burnt orange build a warmer one. A cushion cover is the easiest way to update the look without replacing the insert, and letting the room's existing style, hamptons, boho, or art deco, guide the cushion style keeps everything cohesive.

Best Cushion For

Best for a Plush, Sink-In Feel

Feather Fill and Duck Feather cushions are the pick for anyone who wants a cushion that moulds to the body, not just sits on top of it. Best for a formal lounge or a reading chair used daily.

Best for Shape Retention and Easy Care

Microfibre Fill is Adairs' largest fill category by product count. It holds its square shape without daily plumping, best for family rooms, kids' spaces, or anyone who wants texture without the upkeep.

Best for Texture Mixing

Pairing a linen cushion (Emia, Indra, Belgian Vintage Washed Linen) with a boucle piece (Otis Chocolate Boucle) and a velvet accent builds visual depth in one grouping. Best for a layered sofa or bed.

Best for a Considered Gift

A single embroidered or floral design, like Delilah or Solene, reads as a complete, gift-ready item, often under $50, and stretches further with the Linen Lovers discount on linen pieces./span>

Cushion FAQs

How many cushions should go on a sofa?

As a starting point, three to five cushions on a three-seater sofa looks considered without crowding it. Mix at least two sizes and two textures, and stick to odd numbers, three feels more deliberate than two or four.

What's the difference between feather and microfibre fill?

Feather fill (including duck feather) compresses under weight and needs regular plumping, but gives the softest, most sink-in feel. Microfibre fill is a synthetic fill that springs back into shape on its own, holding a crisp, structured look with far less upkeep. A feather/microfibre blend combines a feather-soft face with a firmer microfibre core, so it needs less maintenance than pure feather. Microfibre is also the hypoallergenic option of the two.

Can I buy just a cushion cover without the insert?

Yes. Covers-only options let you restyle a room by swapping covers over your existing inserts, a cheaper way to update colour and texture each season than replacing whole cushions outright.

How do I fluff and care for a feather cushion?

Plump a feather cushion daily by squeezing and reshaping it from the corners, then give it a firm shake to redistribute the fill evenly. Spot clean the cover where possible, and check the care label before washing, feather inserts generally need airing out rather than a full machine wash cycle

What's the difference between a cushion and a bolster or long cushion?

A standard cushion is square and works almost anywhere: sofa, bed, armchair. A bolster is cylindrical and a long cushion is rectangular; both are built for a specific spot, like the head of a bed, a window seat, or the corner of a chaise, where a square cushion wouldn't sit as neatly.

Can I use my cushions outdoors?

Our indoor cushions aren't built for the weather, they're happiest inside, away from sun and rain. If you want the look and comfort of a cushion on a bench seat, deck chair or outdoor pouf, look for pieces specifically labelled for outdoor use rather than repurposing an indoor one.

Complete your couch with cushions

Cushions refresh a room quickly, but work best layered with other pieces. Pair them with a throw blanket for the sofa, a floor rug to ground the space, and wall art or mirrors to finish the wall behind. Round it out with smaller pieces from home decor, or check Cushions Clearance for past-season prints at a lower price. If linen is your fabric of choice, check Linen Lovers for member pricing across the range.
